Netgear acquires VAAG Systems and opens Software Development Center in Chennai
Netgear has opened a software development center in Chennai as part of its investment in AI and cloud-based solutions for business connectivity. Central to the transformation of Netgear’s business offerings is a recently announced R&D investment that will accelerate the company’s objective to create next-generation networking solutions. The Chennai Software Development Center builds on the acquisition of talent and IP assets of local cloud software company VAAG Systems.
“Netgear is focused on arming businesses with integrated networks that just work but without the complexity that comes with solutions usually targeted towards large enterprises”, says Pramod Badjate, President and GM of Netgear for Business. “Our investments in software and AI are designed to help simplify networking and I am excited about the talent and expertise of the engineers joining us to help achieve this goal.”
VAAG Systems brings a wealth of networking experience to Netgear’s engineering team from their work with companies such as Qualcomm, HP, Cisco and MaxLinear. Their IP, focusing on troubleshooting end-to-end networks through AI, will be added to Netgear’s business products and services. At Netgear, the Chennai-based team will contribute to the company’s goal of providing networks to small and medium enterprises. Sudarsan Vasudevan, CEO of VAAG, joins Netgear as VP of software to lead the operations of the India team and over the next twelve to eighteen months Netgear plans to rapidly expand the engineering team in Chennai by more than 100 employees.
“This investment in our software capabilities represents a significant opportunity for sustained growth for the whole company”, says CJ Prober, CEO of Netgear. “We’ve listened to our customers and the hurdles they face in this increasingly complex business environment. We’re making the necessary investments in expertise and technology to solve the needs of today and anticipate those of tomorrow.”
Since joining nine months ago, Pramod Badjate - who brings deep expertise in networking with experience at Arista, Ruckus, and Cisco - has been driving a strategic repositioning to make Netgear a partner for small and medium enterprises facing increasing digital demands. Netgear has experienced rapid growth in this segment, with over fifteen percent revenue expansion last quarter and double-digit growth forecasted for 2025. Over the next three years, the company plans to accelerate its investment in R&D to enhance its current business offerings.
“Current networking solutions don’t meet the needs of small and medium enterprises. They’re stuck with either complex, overpriced systems meant for larger companies or fragmented solutions that don’t integrate well and lack proper support”, says Badjate. “We’re changing that, offering an integrated solution that is much easier to deploy and manage for MSPs and small IT departments alike.”
Netgear Business is also a pioneer in AV-over-IP technology. Recognizing the surge in demand for seamless video integration, the AV division has built an ecosystem of more than 400 industry partners, supported by a portfolio of preconfigured solutions, design services, and ongoing education. Badjate aims to expand this high-growth segment’s offerings in commercial, broadcast and residential AV.
