Sound designers, engineers, and industry friends recently gathered at London’s Tileyard to raise a glass to the launch of the new TiMax Spatial Studio - the TiMax London HQ, R&D space, and training facility, designed to inspire the next chapter of spatial audio innovation.

In a brief toast, pioneering TiMax founders Robin Whittaker and Dave Haydon welcomed guests to “the space we’ve always wanted to build for the TiMax community”. The duo, who brought the concept of spatial audio to market over 25 years ago when they developed TiMax, thanked the Focusrite Group for the care taken with the company, and spoke of their confidence in stepping back, knowing a formidable new development team is now at the helm.

They handed over to Product and Software Manager Dan Higgott - whose company, Innovate Audio, was also brought into the TiMax fold by Focusrite - and Commercial Manager Rik Kirby, who reflected on an intense year of software rollouts, feature-set evolution, brand development and industry engagement. Higgott and Kirby shared their vision for the future of TiMax and its creative community, including a new collaboration with Sonosphere to promote and expand opportunities for TiMax solutions.

Duncan Bell, speaking for Sonosphere, detailed the company’s long-standing intersection with TiMax and voiced shared enthusiasm for the collaboration before inviting the gathered audience to a listening experience. The presentation showcased the possibilities of Sonosphere’s immersive mix techniques and spatialised content when combined with the TiMax Spatial Studio.

The evening marked more than just a studio opening - it was a celebration of continuity, momentum, and the collaborative spirit that drives TiMax forward. “The launch brought together a wonderful cross-section of the TiMax community, who shared the joy we all feel at this milestone”, said Rik Kirby. “Our training schedule is already fully booked, but the space will always be open to sound designers who want to prepare in a 26.4.6 TiMax mixing studio with eight-sensor tracking system.”
