ATC announces availability of SCS140iW Pro and SCS240iW Pro in-wall subwoofers

ATC introduces its SCS140iW Pro and SCS240iW Pro, available as dual-driver versions of its 12’’/300 mm SCS70iW Pro and 15’’/375 mm SCS120iW Pro in-wall subwoofers - sealed box designs acting as partners to the loudspeaker manufacturer’s SCM200AiW and SCM300AiW in-wall main monitors (with which the new in-wall subwoofers share their respective cabinet widths).

SCS140iW Pro is a new 2 x 12’’ design, taking the qualities of the SCS70iW Pro but enhanced with a pair of 12’’/300 mm drivers and dual remote amps. As such, this lifts the output of an already dynamic subwoofer by 6 dB, resulting, respectively, in a continuous and peak SPL (Sound Pressure Level) capability of 116 dB and 121 dB (at 1 m).

Physically, SCS140iW Pro’s cabinet size is relatively compact, with the width matching the SCM200AiW in-wall main monitor for seamless visual integration when used together. This subwoofer can also partner smaller ATC models, or work with any system where an extended bass response and high SPL/headroom is required.

The larger and more powerful SCS240iW Pro is suited to the largest of control rooms and supporting ATC’s SCM300AiW in-wall main monitor as a 2 x 15’’ design derived from the SCS120iW Pro in-wall subwoofer. Amplifier and driver count is doubled, resulting in a 6 dB increase in continuous and peak output capability - 119 dB continuous and 126 dB peak (at 1 m).

This time the width of the SCS240iW Pro cabinet matches that of the SCM300AiW in-wall main monitor, which it can be paired with. This subwoofer can also partner smaller ATC models, or work with any system where an extended bass response and very high SPL/headroom is required.

The 12’’/300 mm and 15’’/375 mm sub-bass drivers deployed in SCS140iW Pro and SCS240iW Pro are both built by ATC and optimised for reproduction of the lowest four octaves of the audio band. Both feature a 30 mm magnetic gap that is fifty percent longer than any other offered by its creator. This long gap and short-coil configuration takes a longstanding ATC design feature to its limit, ensuring magnetic non-linearities are minimised while simultaneously delivering the high excursion required to generate accurate, dynamic low frequency from modest cone area.

All driver components - from the drive system to the suspension - have been optimised using the latest analysis tools available at both small and large signal level. The advanced transducer combines a short-coil motor system featuring optimised airflow and cooling with a carbon-paper composite cone, and results in deep, clean bass from 120 Hz down to below 20 Hz (in SCS240iW Pro’s case), all with minimal distortion.

The SCS140iW Pro and SCS240iW Pro subwoofers share some features as sealed box designs, including in-wall-specific cabinets with recessed input panels and full-face square-edge baffles and drivers. Both being partnered with accompanying dual R1-300 Pro remote-mounted 7U/19’’ amplifiers allows for flexible installation in a suitable wall close to the subwoofer, in a control room rack, or machine room, with connections made via NL4 speaker and 5-pin XLR cables.

Connectivity and control includes balanced stereo Inputs, balanced (full-range) Outputs, and analogue 4th order Linkwitz-Riley filters with multiple crossover options - including an industry-standard 80 Hz setting and bypass setting for external processing - while a Pol. (polarity) switch, variable Phase control, and stepped attenuator allow for precise system tuning. The 300 W Class A-B amplifiers are hand-built and optimised for fast, dynamic response and also feature mute control via footswitch, with daisy-chain capability for multiple subs.
